WHAT ARE DISPOSABLE VAPES?

If you're contemplating the switch to vaping, look no further. Our lineup of single use vapes might just be your ticket to hassle-free satisfaction. These devices are a breeze to use - simply take a puff; no buttons, no fuss. They're like the "set it and forget it" of the vaping world.

No need to bother with refills or charging here. These kits come preloaded with e-liquid and nicotine, and when your device's done its thing, toss it into a specialist vape recycling drop-off. It's vaping at its most uncomplicated.

What sets our disposable vapes apart is the pedigree behind them. We've teamed up with some of the biggest names in the vaping game: Elf BarSKE Crystal, Lost Mary, Dinner Lady, ELUX, Geekbar, Riot Squad, and IVG. These brands know their stuff, and you get to savour their expertise with every puff.

And here's the kicker – our prices are as competitive as they come, plus we've got some sweet multi-buy deals including 5 for £20. So go ahead, try them all without breaking the bank.

Disposable vapes (sometimes known as puff bars) are vape devices that are designed to be disposed of and recycled once they’re finished - it does what it says on the tin!

They are an easy-to-use vape option that works right out of the packet. These devices come pre-charged and pre-filled with a range of flavours of e-liquid, so you don’t have to worry about changing coils, recharging batteries or filling the device with e-liquid. All you need to do is puff and go, and then when you’re done, simply safely dispose of the device and open up the next one.

Disposable e-cigs are made up of the same main components as regular vape devices. However, these parts are all built-in and are not user-replaceable. This means that you can’t customise your vape, but also comes with several benefits. These devices come out of the box pre-charged, pre-filled and ready to use without any further setup.

This ease of use makes them a great starter product for first-time vapers, but also as a backup device for more experienced vapers looking for something to use more discreetly while out and about.

Devices like the well-known Elf bar are very popular vapes due to their massive range of exciting flavours and how easy they are to use. Products such as the Lost Mary or the Crystal bars from SKE are also incredibly compact and discreet, allowing for use in areas where a larger advanced vape kit wouldn't be suitable.

HOW DO DISPOSABLE VAPES WORK?

Disposable vapes are ready to use out of the packet, they will provide approximately 600 puffs. When you inhale on the mouthpiece and no vapour is produced, dispose of the device and start a fresh one.

Disposable e-cigarettes are constructed from various parts:

  • Battery;– The integrated battery powers the device. The battery is pre-charged and single-use.
  • Cartridge/Pod– Reservoir chamber that holds the e-liquid. Prefilled and cannot be reused.
  • Atomiser Coil– The atomiser coil is the heating element. Around the atomiser coil, there is a cotton-wicking material that delivers e-liquid to the coil. When the device is activated the battery sends power to the coil to heat the coil. When the e-liquid contained within the pod cartridge is heated, it produces a vapour.
  • Nic Salt E-Liquid– Nic salt or nicotine salt e-liquids deliver incredible flavour and allow you to vape higher-strength e-liquids without a harsh throat hit. They provide a super smooth inhale and closely replicate the sensation of smoking a regular cigarette.
  • Outer Casing– The outer casing shell holds all the parts together.
  • Mouthpiece– The mouthpiece or drip tip is the part of the disposable vape that you inhale on.

For many years, disposables were used primarily by new vapers and were designed to emulate the experience of smoking a cigarette as closely as possible. These “cig-a-like” devices came in the shape, size and design of a traditional cigarette.

As vaping has become more popular, disposable vapes have changed too. You’ll surely recognise common brands like Elf Bars and Crystal Bars for their small size, brightly coloured casing and ergonomic mouthpiece designs.

The newest designs are multi-cartridge "big-puff" vapes designed to last longer and save you money. Each device has a larger capacity battery often rechargeable, and multiple cartridges that you insert into the vape and can then swap between. These typically last around 4 times as much as a standard 600 puff disposable vape.

These don’t look like cigarettes anymore, but that doesn’t make them any less effective. Vaping can be a valuable tool to help you quit smoking.

HOW TO VAPE A DISPOSABLE DEVICE

One of the first questions you might have when looking at all the vaping options on the market today (and there are a lot) is “How do you use a disposable vape?”

Short answer: Disposable devices are simply activated by inhaling on the mouthpiece.

The majority are draw-activated, which means all you need to do with a disposable vape is open the box and take a drag. This will power the kit on and provide you with a satisfying vape experience instantly and without any fuss.

Some disposable vapes will have button activated mechanisms, which means you just have to press a button while inhaling to activate the heating coil. However, among the new generation of disposables (including Elf Bars, Elux Bars, and Lost Mary products), this is becoming less common, and the majority of popular disposable vapes on the market today are draw-activated.

Simplicity is the name of the game when it comes to disposable non-refillable vapes - there are no settings to adjust, coils to change or e-liquid to refill, making them extremely easy and convenient to use.

This simplicity, along with the low upfront costs of a disposable vape, are a couple of the main reasons why many users who are new to vaping start on this type of vape.

Why does my vape (disposable) taste burnt?

If your disposable tastes burnt, you’re probably experiencing a dry hit! If you’re brand new to vaping and are using a single-use vape, this is likely to be your first time experiencing a dry hit. You may rush to the conclusion that your vape bar is broken, but that’s not necessarily the case.

A dry hit happens when you draw from your device and there's not enough juice on the wicking material inside. So rather than the taste of your e-liquid, you get a hit of burnt cotton which is nobody's favourite experience.

If you’re using a more advanced vape with removable components, then the issue might be with your setup, your wick, or your e-liquid. However, if you’re just using a simple disposable vape, then all it means is that you’re out of juice! Simply throw away that vape and start a new one.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

There are so many different options available in the world of vaping today that it can seem impossible to make the right choice and get the best for you. Particularly if you’re new to vaping, there is a lot of jargon and information out there that can be really confusing. Fortunately, at TABlites, we’re here to help! There are lots of advantages to disposable vapes, but there are also a few reasons they might not be right for you.

Pros of Disposable Vapes

A disposable vape pen is a great way to transition from smoking cigarettes, as they are easy to use and have very inexpensive upfront costs. This means you can experiment with different flavours before finding your favourite!

These also have a smoother and more effective delivery of nicotine compared to other types of starter kits because they use Nicotine Salts e-liquid rather than standard (freebase) nicotine. This means that if you are struggling with nicotine cravings, disposable vapes are effective at satisfying those cravings.

They are small and compact, so you can carry them wherever you go, and they fit neatly into a bag or a pocket. As they are built with the e-liquid pre-filled, disposables are also far less likely to leak than other kinds of vapes.

You can purchase a whole box of vapes to last for several days and also reduce the price making these cheap disposable vapes a bargain.

Cons of Disposables

Cheap disposable vapes are a great option when you want to save money in the short term, but they don't last very long. You may consider buying a refillable vape instead as this will save you money in the long run. Pod vapes or pre-filled cartridge vapes are a good middle ground if you’re looking for convenience, but also to save a little money.

Non-refillable vapes are worse than refillable vapes from a sustainable perspective, as they are single-use. These vapes are made almost entirely of plastic and metal, and their components are fully integrated. This makes it very difficult to recycle disposable vapes, so they almost always end up in a landfill. The battery components of all spent vapes should be recycled, but uptake in this kind of recycling isn’t high, and some local authorities don’t even offer it as a local government service.

These tiny vapes are also much less powerful than more advanced vapes. If you’re interested in upgrading your vaping experience, you’ll likely need to switch to a pod vape, sub-ohm vape or other kinds of cartridge vape. Upgrading will allow you to experiment with different styles of vaping and different types of e-liquid, which isn’t possible with a disposable vape.

E-LIQUID IN DISPOSABLE VAPES EXPLAINED

The e-liquid that you get in single-use vapes is the same as you find in traditional refillable vapes. Disposables, like regular e-liquids, come in a range of flavours, compositions and nicotine strengths. It can be a bit of trial and error to get the right vape for you, which is why disposable is a great starter option. They're affordable and available in a massive range of flavours and strengths, so if you don't get on with one type of disposable, there are plenty more to try out there!

Which strength do I need?

Like all vapes, disposables are available in a range of nicotine strengths. The right nicotine strength differs from person to person and can be affected by lots of different factors. Some of these factors include:

  • How long you have been vaping for
  • How often do you vape
  • How much vapour you inhale per puff
  • How long do your vape sessions last
  • Your vaping style
  • The type of e-liquid you use
  • How many cigarettes you're used to smoking per day (if you're vaping to quit smoking)

The standard nicotine level in most vapes (including big brands like Elux disposables or Elf Bar disposables) is either 10mg/ml or 20mg/ml. In line with TRPR rules, nicotine products like e-liquid can't be stronger than 20mg/ml.

If you feel lightheaded when you’re vaping or get a sore, scratchy sensation in your throat as you inhale, you might be on too high of a nicotine dosage. Try switching to a lower nicotine Vape Juice, or even a nicotine-free e-liquid!

On the other hand, if you find that when vaping, you aren't getting enough nicotine to satisfy your cravings, you might want to look into a stronger e-liquid or try a nicotine salt e-liquid.

Nic salts use a slightly different chemical process to extract nicotine from the tobacco leaf. This means that it reacts slightly differently in the body compared to traditional nicotine (known as freebase nicotine). The advantage of nicotine salt e-liquid is that it delivers a stronger nicotine rush while still providing a smooth throat hit, and without requiring higher (and more dangerous) doses of nicotine.

THE COSTS OF DISPOSABLE VAPES

One question we always get asked is “Are disposable vapes cheaper than smoking?”. The short answer to this question is yes, disposable vapes are considerably cheaper than smoking.

If you want to look a little deeper, we need to look at the initial cost and how much vape time you get for your money with each product.

Based on data from the ONS, the current price of a 20 pack of cigarettes in the UK is a little under £13. This figure has risen steadily over the last 10 years and shows no signs of decreasing any time soon!

The average smoker smokes around 10 cigarettes per day. This means that they are spending around £6.50 each day on tobacco cigarettes, or £2370 a year.

The average disposable vape on the market today costs somewhere in the region of £4.95 for a single unit or 5 for £20, and most disposables contain 600 puffs which is the rough equivalent of 20 cigarettes. These last the average user 1 to 3 days, but this will be dependent on how much they are used and the length of the draw.

When the disposable vape is finished the entire unit will need to be replaced each time as the battery is non-rechargeable. This means that the average vaper will pay just over £2.50 per day for a disposable vape.

If we multiply these numbers to cover a year the cost of smoking would be just over £2370 and the cost of using disposables would be just over £910.

With these figures in mind vaping disposable vapes is considerably cheaper than smoking. However, it is also worth noting that long-term, disposable vapes are the most expensive form of vaping, and further savings are available if you switch to refillable and rechargeable vape kits and e-liquid.

FAQs

When are disposable vapes getting banned?

You should be aware by now that the UK Government plans to implement a ban on disposables on the 1st of April 2025.

This is due to 2 things, Firstly the rise in youth vaping fueled by dodgy shops selling age-restricted products to anyone and everyone without care including children. These are often illegal products that do not comply with the restrictions on products sold by reputable companies like ourselves.

The second factor leading to a ban on these products is the environmental damage done by careless and reckless disposal of single-use vape products. This waste is what led TABlites to partner with the Green Wings project to take this rubbish away from our streets and allow the various components to be properly and responsibly recycled.

When disposable vapes are banned there will still be a great selection of vapes available to purchase. These are both better quality and more sustainable when compared to single-use vapes.

Are disposable vapes legal?

Most disposables are legal in the UK. This does however depend on the liquid capacity of the device and the strength of the nicotine. The Tobacco and Related Products Regulations (TRPR) are a set of UK laws that regulate the sale of traditional tobacco products such as cigarettes and cigars, but also the production and distribution.

Disposable kits in the EU are regulated by the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) rules. There were no significant changes to vaping regulations as a result of Brexit, and the laws originally implemented by the TPD remain in place in the UK today. That means that if you see references to TPD rules, they’ll be largely the same as TRPR rules.

Some of the key rules surrounding vapes in the UK include:

  • E-cigarette tanks, including disposable vapes, are limited to a capacity of no more than 2ml
  • TRPR rules restrict the maximum volume of e-liquid refill bottles to 10ml.
  • E-liquids are restricted to a maximum nicotine strength of 20mg/ml
  • All nicotine-containing products and their packaging are required by law to be child-resistant and tamper-evident.
  • E-liquids sold in the UK are not allowed to contain certain ingredients including colourings, caffeine and taurine.
  • Vapes and e-liquids have a range of stringent labelling and warning requirements and their packaging.
  • All vapes and e-liquids in the UK need to be registered with the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency) before being sold to consumers.

Lost Mary and other similar disposables are perfectly legal to purchase in the UK providing you’re 18 or older and the product is within the specifications set by TRPR/TPD. This means that they need to contain no more than 2ml of e-liquid and can be no stronger than 20mg (2%) of nicotine.

Products that boast higher strengths or contain more e-liquid may actually be counterfeit or have been intended for the international market. This means that they are therefore illegal to sell in the UK.

An increasing number of vapes are being seized by trading standards, which allows users to feel more confident in their purchases and put a stop to illegal, dangerous and counterfeit vapes being sold on the UK market. It is recommended you only purchase vape products from a well-established vape store like TABlites for your own safety.

Why are some disposable vapes illegal?

There are some disposable vape products that are not allowed to be sold by registered and reputable retailers like TABlites. Products like the Elux Legend 3500 are illegal in the UK due to the liquid capacity being greater than 2ml.

10ml capacity devices like the Elux Legend 3500 are not being sold in the UK by reputable companies. They are considerably more likely to be dangerous counterfeits than devices which meet the legal limits in the UK, as fewer checks are being carried out to ensure a safe product for the end user.

Are disposable vapes safe?

Yes, these vapes are safe to use, as long as you are buying from a reputable store. The e-liquid used in disposable vapes has been tested and submitted under the TRPR here in the UK

All the ingredients and components of the device are the same as those you would find in other vaping products available from reputable vape stores.

So long as you are buying a genuine product you are buying a safe product. Avoid purchasing from non-vape stores as they will have limited product knowledge and be unable to ensure their products are safe or offer advice before you buy.

Remember, as with all electronic cigarette vape products, disposables are only ever intended for adult users who are trying to quit or continue to quit smoking.

Are disposables bad for you?

Like all vapes, disposable electronic cigarettes are generally considered to be far less dangerous than regular cigarettes.

There are no chemicals like tar or carbon monoxide produced when vaping, and there is no combustion (burning) either. When you inhale from your vape, you are primarily inhaling vapour, which is mostly water. There are also flavourings, nicotine, PG, and VG in vapour, but there are no other compounds. This means that you get the same amount of nicotine as if you were smoking but without all the other nasty stuff.

So, if you're looking for an alternative to smoking, then a disposable might just be what you need.

Who can use disposable vapes?

Disposable vapes are designed for existing smokers and vapers over the age of 18. They are perfect for anyone new to vaping due to their ease of use and convenience.

They are also great for existing vapers to have as a backup to a traditional vape device. Perfect when you run out of liquid, run out of battery, crack a glass tank or when you simply don’t want to take an expensive vape device with you, such as on a night out.

Can you take vapes on an aeroplane?

It is always best to check with your airline as to their rules on vape products being taken on the plane. All airlines have now banned vaping on flights, however, some may have different rules when it comes to travelling with e-cigs and vape products.

Batteries should not be stored in luggage that is going to be carried in the hold as this can pose a fire risk. Instead, batteries should be placed safely in your hand luggage and declared when you go through security. Spare juice can go into hold luggage.

It is worth noting that juice bottles and e-cig tanks tend to leak at altitude due to differences in air pressure. It may be worth keeping your vape inside a plastic bag to save your clothes and luggage from e-liquid leaks

How long does a 600 puff vape vape last?

The 2 factors that will determine how long a disposable vape will last are e-liquid quantity and battery capacity.

Most disposables contain between 1ml and 2ml of e-liquid with the majority being closer to the 2ml mark. Under TPD regulations, disposables cannot hold more than 2ml of e-liquid. However, most disposable e-cigs are advertised with a puff quantity to show how long they will last. This can be somewhere between 300 and 600 puffs.

You can get disposable vapes with up to 3,500 puffs, but these are illegal due to the amount of e-liquid the device holds. You won’t find this type of vape sold at any reputable vape company while these laws are in place.

If you are looking for a long-lasting disposable vape that you can be confident is safe to use, why not try the Elf Bar 600V2? These devices offer some of the highest puff counts on the market while still being within TPD regulations.

The battery capacity of most disposable vapes is low - around 300mAh to 500 mAh. However, this should last long enough to get you through all of the e-liquid within the device.

How much liquid do disposable vapes have?

The legal limit on the amount of liquid a device can hold is 2ml, and all the popular vapes from companies such as Elf Bar, Crystal Bar and Nasty Juice contain this amount.

Can you recharge a disposable vape?

No, these vapes do not have rechargeable batteries. Disposables are missing the circuitry required to recharge their batteries, and attempting to do so would be dangerous, pose a fire risk and could cause injuries to the person doing so.

Can you refill disposable vapes?

No disposables are not made to be refilled. They are sealed units and are only meant to last a finite amount of time with most units lasting around 500-600 puffs.

The e-liquid containing capsule is not designed to be opened and sealed multiple times like a vape tank.

If you’re looking for something more permanent, we carry a wide range of vape kits in loads of different styles, most of which are refillable and rechargeable.

Devices such as the Elfbar Elfa look, feel and perform like a disposable vape but can be recharged and use a prefilled pod system that allows the user to swap between flavours quickly and easily. Pod vapes are a popular "next step" for disposable vapers looking to get a bit more out of their vape.

How do you dispose of disposable vapes?

Due to the batteries that are held inside, they cannot be disposed of with your normal household waste, as this could pose a fire risk.

Batteries must be taken to a battery recycling point which can be found in supermarkets, recycling centres, and of course your local TABlites store.

Do disposable vapes contain nicotine?

Most but not all disposables contain nicotine. The most popular strengths are 10mg (1%) and 20mg (2%).

Can you get disposable vapes without nicotine?

Yes, while most disposable vapes do contain nicotine, there are ranges which are nicotine-free. AtTABlites, we stock the Elf Bar Zero Nicotine disposable, one of the most popular nicotine-free disposable options on the market today. These come in a range of fantastic flavours and are part of the 2 for £10 multibuy deal.

Do vapes have a best-before date?

Yes. The best before dates on disposable vapes are similar to those found on e-liquids. These are typically between 2 and 4 years from the time of manufacture and will be displayed clearly on the packaging.

Are 3500 puff disposable vapes legal in the UK?

No, 3500-puff disposables are illegal in the UK. These large-capacity devices are illegal in the UK as they do not conform to the rules and regulations set out by the TPRP.

The new "big puff" versions such as the Elf Bar AF5000 are UK-legal as they use a multi-cartridge system.
