Stoptober 2023 is a Government backed campaign that encourages smokers to quit the habit during the month of October. Research shows that not smoking for the entire month of October increases the chances of quitting smoking permanently by 5 times.
Disposable vape bars like Lost Mary, Elf Bar and Elux offer convenient, maintenance-free devices that require no previous vaping knowledge to get started. But, the single-use nature of disposables is very wasteful and there are more eco-friendly alternatives available.
We have teamed up with the Green Wings Project which is on a mission to minimise disposable vape waste and reduce the environmental impact of single-use vape devices.

It’s time to make the switch this Stoptober
This Stoptober, we want people who use disposable vapes and are 18 or older to switch to refillable and rechargeable devices. This will greatly reduce vape waste in the UK.

What is a rechargeable and refillable vape?
A rechargeable and refillable vape kit is made up of a battery, pod, coil and e-liquid. Let’s take a look at how the individual components of an e-cigarette work.
Rechargeable Battery
The battery is what powers the vape. Lithium-ion batteries are most commonly used as they can be recharged and reused again. The advancement in vape battery technology has come a long way since the bulky and heavy vape kits from 10 years ago.
Small palm sized devices that are not much bigger than disposable vapes that feature large capacity batteries (up to 1000mAh) are now available offering a compact and lightweight option ideal for on-the-go vaping. Pod system kits provide ample power for a full day of vaping contained in a portable and low-profile casing.
Vape Pod or Tank
The vape pod is a cartridge where the e-liquid is stored. Some vape pods feature a built-in coil to remove the need for messy coil changes. Many tanks offer adjustable airflow, allowing you to tailor the texture of the vapour by opening and closing the airflow port.
- Opening the airflow allows more air to pass when taking a draw which results in a cooler and more airier inhale.
- Closing the airflow restricts the amount of air to pass when taking a draw resulting in a warmer and tighter inhale.
If you are making the switch from cigarettes to e-cigarettes this Stoptober a closed airflow will provide a cigarette-like inhale to closely mimic traditional cigarette smoking.

Vape Coil or Atomizer
The atomiser is one of the most important parts of an electronic cigarette. Coils are responsible for heating the e-liquid and turning it into a vapour to be inhaled. A vape coil is made up of a wire coil or meshed coil and wicking material.
The wicking material is most commonly constructed from cotton, which absorbs the vape juice in your vape pod or tank. When the battery is powered, it heats the coil to vapourise the e-liquid turning it into a vapour to be inhaled.
Vape coils are available in a range of resistances which is a measurement of electrical resistance of the coil being used. Resistance is measured in ‘Ohms’ (Ω). When using entry-level vape starter kits most common coil options are 0.6ohm, 0.8ohm, 1.0ohm and 1.2ohm.
The 0.6ohm and 0.8ohm coil options will provide denser clouds with a restricted direct-to-lung (RDTL) inhale. The 1.0ohm and 1.2ohm coil options are best suited for mouth-to-lung (MTL) vaping with a cigarette-like inhale.
Vape coils will need to be replaced regularly to ensure a pleasurable vaping experience with crystal clear flavour from your e-liquid.
E-liquid or Vape Juice
E-liquid, also known as vape juice or e-juice, contains ingredients like PG, VG, flavourings, and nicotine (if desired). Each ingredient plays an important role in your vaping experience.

What are the advantages of making the switch to rechargeable e-cigarette devices?
Rechargeable vapes offer several advantages compared to disposable vapes, making them a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly option for many users. Here are some of the key advantages of rechargeable vapes:
High Quality
Quality rechargeable vape devices are durable and made from higher quality materials, built to last. With proper care and maintenance, a lithium-ion vape battery can last anywhere from 6-12 months. Disposable vapes have a limited lifespan.
More Cost Effective
While the initial cost of a rechargeable vape kit may be slightly higher than a disposable device, over time, rechargeable vapes are more cost-effective. You only need to purchase the device once. The only additional costs when purchasing a new vape kit are replacing atomizer coils and topping up vape juice. Rechargeable vape devices will inform you of the status of your battery giving you ample time before your vape kit needs recharging. Disposable vapes will run out of power with no notice.
Inhale to Vape
Many rechargeable vapes like pod vape kits feature inhale-activation, which means by puffing on the mouthpiece will automatically activate the kit and produce vapour.
If you have been using disposable vapes, look for a vape kit with auto-draw technology to mimic the inhale from disposable vapes.
Better Performance/Customisation
Rechargeable vape kits offer ways to customise your vape to suit your specific needs. Adjustable wattage allows you to tailor the power output of the device to switch between a warmer or cooler inhale.

Coil Options
