Summer Holidays: Vaping Etiquette

Summer Holidays: Vaping Etiquette 1

Vaping is now a part of life for many Britons, but using electronic cigarettes on holiday isn’t always as straight-forward as it is in this country. Electronic cigarettes can be used indoors, but not all airlines, in hotels or inside other establishments like you can use them here. Because of this, it can make a lot of sense to read up on vaping etiquette before you jet off on your holiday abroad.

If you really can’t live without your e-cig, make sure you follow some of these simple tips:

Find out what your airline’s rules are

A lot of airlines will have different rules and regulations concerning electronic cigarettes. This is because e-cigarettes have become incredibly popular over the last few years, which has caused many airlines to change their policies. You should be able to find out what you need to know on your airline’s website, but if you can’t, be sure to call them. Don’t simply assume that not being able to find anything online means e-cigs will be allowed.

For instance, British Airways is happy for you to bring electronic cigarettes onboard but won’t allow you to use them. It’s a similar case with Ryanair, EasyJet, and Virgin Atlantic Airlines. However, Monarch Airlines simply says that it doesn’t permit the use of electronic cigarettes onboard, but appears to be vague on whether or not they can be travelled with.

Meanwhile, Flybe doesn’t allow passengers to take e-liquid refills onboard, and Jet2 doesn’t allow electronic cigarettes in hand luggage.

These are just the British airlines – many international airlines are likely to have different rules, so be sure to check.

Never conceal your e-cig

You may think it’s a great idea to simply hide your e-cig in your pocket if your airline doesn’t allow vaping, but it really isn’t. If they aren’t allowed to be carried onboard, there isn’t much you’ll be able to do, but if they are allowed to be travelled with but you can’t vape on board, make sure your entire kit is in one place. This will make it easy to see that you aren’t attempting to conceal anything.

Don’t vape if it isn’t allowed

Respect the airlines policy by following their rules. Vaping when it isn’t allowed on planes could land you in prison for the night – no, really, it could! If, however, vaping is allowed, go right ahead.

Carry your e-cig kit in a cushioned bag

As anyone who’s ever had a bag come back a little worse for wear at the baggage claim area will know, your luggage isn’t exactly handled with kid gloves by airlines. If your e-cig kit is going in your checked luggage, be sure to carry it in a bag that will protect it from harm – the last thing you want is for anything to get broken.

Find out what your destination country’s rules are

Much like airlines, every country seems to have a different set of rules concerning electronic cigarettes. Some allow them everywhere; others only allow them in certain places – it can be incredibly confusing, but it really pays to find out what the regulations are before you set off.

No matter where you’re going though, make sure you have fun when you’re there! Being able to vape while you’re on holiday will certainly ensure you have a great time, especially if you’re able to check out some of the overseas electronic cigarette events that are coming up, such as ECC in Canada, and the Vapour Expo and VCCNE in the USA.
