Ultimate Guide to E-Liquids
An electronic cigarette at its most basic level contains three separate components. They are the battery, an atomiser, and the cartridge or tank. The cartridge or tank contains a flavoured nicotine solution. When an individual uses an e-cigarette, the liquid in the cartridge/tank is heated by the atomiser so that it then evaporates. The vapour then delivers nicotine to the user to be inhaled.
We take pride in being able to offer the very best e-liquids available. Every product we supply is of the highest quality, and they are regularly tested to ensure they are free from contaminants and contain the correct amount of nicotine as stated on the labelling. This is in line with guidelines set down by ECITA (the Electronic Cigarette Industry Trade Association).
E-Cigarette liquid basics
Electric cigarette liquid is arguably the most important component of an e-cigarette as it produces the vapour, which carries the nicotine. Whilst there are many strengths and flavours available, e-liquid usually contains the following three ingredients:
- Nicotine in a certain strength measured in milligrams per millilitre
- Base liquid, which is a combination of PG (Propylene Glycol) and VG (Vegetable Glycerine) and can come in a range of different ratios. At TABlites our Premium Range is 80% PG to 20% VG.
PG (Propylene Glycol) is the most commonly used component in the base liquid and contributes a good deal of the ‘throat hit’ or ‘kick’ of the vapour. It’s also regarded as a better ‘flavour carrier’ than VG, meaning a higher PG percentage usually gives a better overall flavour to the e-liquid.
VG (Vegetable Glycerine) however, produces vapour with a sweeter taste as it has a little flavour of its own and smoother ‘throat hit’. It is also thicker than PG, meaning a higher percentage of VG in the base liquid will lead to bigger clouds of vapour.
Here is a little more information on the base liquid ingredients:
PG (Propylene Glycol) is an organic compound which has been used as a food additive and also as a carrier for medicines in inhalers and nebulisers for over 50 years. It is primarily a diluent and a delivery vector for ingredients that do not dissolve in water, in this case nicotine.
VG (Vegetable Glycerine) is an organic compound which is used as a food additive mainly in sweeteners or in thickening agents. It is also found as a diluent and delivery vector. It is pretty much the same as PG, but thicker.
All of our flavours have been hand-picked by our team and we have over one hundred different flavour and strength combinations available, so you’ll always be able to find the something that you’ll like. Just a few of the huge range of flavours we offer in our Premium Range include:
- Triple Menthol
As well as the Premium E-Liquid Range we also offer the Decadence E-Liquid Range, which features several mouth-watering and interesting flavours such as Rainbow Fruit and Lemon Meringue.
When it comes to storage, E-Liquids should be stored in a cool dark place which is out of the reach of children, preferably high up. The bottles all feature child-safety caps but we always recommend that you check the lid is tightly closed.
E-Liquid tends to have a shelf-life of about two years. While it isn’t necessary to keep it refrigerated some people do prefer to do that. It’s really up to you. As long as the E-Liquid is stored safely away from children and pets it’ll definitely last long enough for you to vape it as and when you prefer.
TABlites E-Liquid strength
At TABlites we stock five different strengths of e-liquids, they are:
We tend to recommend that someone just starting out in the world of electronic cigarettes uses an 18mg liquid. This is our ‘Medium’ strength and is about right for almost anyone.
Particularly light smokers (5-10 mild cigarettes a day) might want to try an 11mg liquid and conversely particularly heavy smokers (more than 20 strong cigarettes a day) might prefer a 24mg liquid, but it’s really all about preference and finding the right strength to suit your tastes.
Not only is it enjoyable to choose between the many different flavours of e-liquids which are available, you can also experiment and mix your own e-liquids to create a unique flavour. You might want to create a crazy concoction like Amaretto and Watermelon, or Caramel and Cheesecake, and with seemingly every flavour under the sun available, it’s incredibly easy to create delicious flavours.
In fact, two or three of the flavours we offer in our Premium E-Liquid range are a result of Team TABlites members finding great e-liquid ‘cocktails’ that we just had to share with our customers.

Please remember that E-liquid is a substance which may cause allergic reactions in a minority of people, a very small percentage may have a mild adverse reaction to PG, in this instance we recommend using an e-liquid with a higher VG to PG ratio, or simply avoiding e-liquid altogether if the reaction is particularly bad.
